Wow! Group 9 have had an amazing week back following the half term break. We started out by looking at the holocaust and learning about what it was like to live in a concentration camp. Each group 9 member was tasked with researching a different individual who had been persecuted during this era. Students then feedback to their peers, this gave them more information about the horrific conditions and disregard for human life. Following this work the group visited the Holocaust Exhibition at Huddersfield University. The boys were very keen to ask the assistants working, questions about the exhibition so they could gain even more information. Both staff and the students found this exhibition very interesting but also very sad.

The group has also been learning about living in Britain during wartime. The group have been looking at propaganda., starting with learning the meaning of propaganda, which students have done very well to grasp. Students have been looking at British propaganda posters and have been interpreting what the poster is telling the British public, which they all found very interesting. Students have also being learning what rationing means, they have looked at an example of a wartime ration book. Students understood restrictions on food and that sometimes ingredients in recipes had to be substituted due to unavailability. We ended the week by having a go at making some wartime recipes. We made an eggless chocolate cake, which even included vinegar in the recipe! It turned out very nice, we enjoyed sharing it for our pudding at lunchtime.
